Pied-de Terre Tax and the 2026 to 2027 NY State Budget

Brian Lehrer Show, WNYT Public Radio, May 11, 2026

Ir was nice for me to have an opportunity, as Principal of Faith in the Public Square, to ask a question on The Brian Lehrer Show on May 11, 2026 about expanding the pied-a terre tax second homes outside of New York City valued at 2.5 million or more. Cities out of NYC are struggling even more and would benefit from this revenue. Proposed by Senator Pat

Fahy, it does not look like a statewide pied-de terre tax in the budget. I pressed to say that we really needed other ways to raise revenue but the Governor’s proposals are pretty thin.

“Today, Christians observe Good Friday — a day when corrupt religious and political forces crucified Jesus of Nazareth as a common criminal on a rubbish heap outside the city walls of Jerusalem. It was a place of fear located just outside the city, where most people would want to pass by quickly — a place that might have something in common with a militarized border zone or the parking lot of an immigration detention center.” Continue Reading full article here.

New York for All Advocates Blockade the Capitol

The Sanctuary for Independent Media, March 25, 2026

On Tuesday March 23, the NY Immigration Coalition and other supporters of the New York For All blockaded the state entrance to the Capitol, including stopping traffic on State Street. The Act would prohibit local governments and police from collaborating with ICE. The bill has not yet been re-introduced this year as changes are being negotiated. The protestors eventually went inside the Capitol to continue their protest but the state police declined to arrest people. We hear the read testimony of several people who have had negative interactions with ICE, followed by Rev. Peter Cook, and then from several of the nearly dozen state legislators who sat down on the street outside the Capitol, including Assemblymembers Sarahana Shrestha, Claire Valdez, and Diana Moreno and Senator Jabari Brisport.
