After the 9/11 attacks, no one could agree what should be done with Ground Zero. And so New York decided to do one of the bravest—or stupidest—things in the history of city planning. They gathered 5,000 representative New Yorkers and asked them to decide.
People expected chaos, yelling, maybe even a fistfight. But what happened was Democracy.
Why this story, why now?
This film tells the story of a city that responded to an attack on democracy by practicing democracy. It’s more than an exploration of the past, it’s a blueprint for the future, and an example of what’s possible.
A filmmakers’ panel will follow the event, and Riversiders will also reflect on how our church responded spiritually, pastorally, and politically to this tragic event that shaped our church, city, country… and world.
